Take your first steps towards an exhilarating experience and become a helicopter pilot.

In partnership with Orlando Flight Training, we provide exciting opportunities for you to fly a helicopter and gain a Federal Aviation Authorities (FAA) Private Pilot Licence. Our 7 week FAA PPL course is suitable if you are aged 17 or upwards, can read, speak and understand English, and have a head for heights! You will need to pass a Class 2 aviation medical, and subject to US law, you must also obtain an M-1 Training Visa prior to travelling to America. Through a combination of ground training, flight training manoeuvres and procedures, and pre and post flight briefings, the FAA PPL course provides a unique opportunity for you to learn how to fly a helicopter for pleasure. The Robinson R-22 helicopter will be used for the training courses and we strongly recommend as much pre course study as possible using the helicopter student study pack (which we can provide for you at an additional cost).

the qualifications

Upon successful completion of the course and the examinations, you will receive your Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Private Pilot Licence. The FAA is primarily responsible for the advancement, safety and regulation of civil aviation. If you intend to fly helicopters in the UK, you will need to complete the FAA course first, followed by a 5 hour FAA to JAA conversion with a Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) examiner when you return to the UK. The conversion course can be carried out by Orlando Flight Training’s UK partner, Cabair College of Air Training, based at Cranfield Airport and Bournemouth International Airport.
